Opportunity Summary
We are currently looking for a qualified and experienced trainer to deliver a specialized 6-day training program on the Historical and Political Background of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) and North-East Syria (NES). This training is requested by one of our international clients and will take place in Erbil.

Training Objective:
To provide participants with an in-depth understanding of the historical and political context of KRI and NES, covering topics such as governance structures, transitional justice, and the relevance of trauma in post-conflict settings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver engaging training sessions based on the provided training outline.
  • Present historical and political concepts in a clear, accessible manner tailored to a diverse audience.
  • Facilitate discussions and critical thinking among participants.
  • Prepare training materials, handouts, and presentations.
  • Collaborate with the Worka Academy team and client representatives to ensure program success.
  • Submit a post-training report, including participant feedback and evaluation results.

Training Topics Include:

  • Historical Background (Last 100–150 Years)
  • Nationalism and colonialism
  • Location-specific history (Duhok, Slêmanî, Kerkûk)
  • Memory culture and its impact
  • Current Political Structures and Institutions
  • Governance in KRI and NES
  • Economy, peacebuilding, and federalism
  • Working with Local Authorities
  • Structure, actors, and decision-making networks
  • Application for permissions and funding
  • Transitional Justice & Trauma
  • Historical trauma, its impact on mental health, and intergenerational trauma

Qualifications & requirements

Requirements:

  • Advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) in Modern History, Political Science, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in teaching or training related to history, governance, transitional justice, or political systems.
  • Understanding of the historical and political context of KRI and NES is essential.
  • Fluency in English (Kurdish or Arabic is a plus).
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to engage participants from diverse backgrounds.
  • Availability to deliver training in Erbil for 6 consecutive days.
