 MEAL (Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning) Officer

Job Title: MEAL Officer

Reports To: Program Manager/MEAL Manager

Key Responsibilities

  1. Monitoring and Evaluation
  • Develop and implement MEAL frameworks, tools, and systems for ongoing and new projects.
  • Conduct regular field visits to monitor project activities and validate data.
  • Ensure timely collection, analysis, and reporting of qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Collaborate with project teams to track progress against indicators and milestones.
  1. Accountability
  • Establish and maintain community feedback mechanisms to ensure transparency and inclusivity.
  • Regularly collect and respond to feedback from beneficiaries, ensuring issues are addressed effectively.
  • Promote accountability standards across the organization in line with donor and sector guidelines.
  1. Learning and Reporting
  • Facilitate learning sessions with project teams to reflect on successes, challenges, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Document lessons learned, success stories, and case studies to support knowledge management.
  • Prepare high-quality reports for donors, management, and other stakeholders.
  1. Capacity Building
  • Train project staff and partners on MEAL systems and tools to build their capacity.
  • Provide ongoing support and mentorship to ensure compliance with MEAL standards.

 

Qualifications & requirements

Qualifications and Skills

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Monitoring and Evaluation, Development Studies, Social Sciences, Statistics, or a related field. Master’s degree is an advantage.

Experience

  • At least 3 years of experience in MEAL roles within the development or humanitarian sector.
  • Proven experience in designing and implementing MEAL frameworks and tools.
  • Strong familiarity with qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis methods.

Skills and Competencies

  • Proficiency in MEAL-related software (e.g., Activity Info, Excel, Kobo Toolbox, Power BI).
  • Excellent reporting and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in multicultural and multi-stakeholder environments.
  • Fluency in English and local languages.
