10 Months can be extended.
Purpose:
As part of CP and Psychosocial support project focusing on provision of Community based child protection to conflict
affected boys and girls in Sinjar city in Iraq. SOSD is working to mitigate the consequences of CP in conflicts and support
the displaced boys and girls to overcome their trauma, through Psychosocial Support Units and CP Mobile Team, in
addition to; engaging the community leaders and stakeholders to provision of community based child protection in
North Iraq – Kurdistan region and Ninawa. SOSD is therefore looking for Legal Aid Worker to work under
aforementioned project.
The Legal Aid Worker will report to Programs Manager
Key Areas of Responsibility
Legal activities :
• Collaboration with Team Leader in the planning of legal activities.
• Monitor that progress on individual cases is well documented, ensure the proper filing and archiving of
individual legal files to maintain data confidentiality, respecting strict protocols for confidentiality and consent;
• Plan and facilitate legal awareness sessions on different legal topics in coordination with the Team leader and
outreach worker.
• Under supervision of Program manager, update, monitor and overview the legal database and one of internal
and external referrals on a regular basis to properly revise the quality of the information included and to have a
comprehensive knowledge of cases that require particular attention and follow up.
• Receive external and internal referrals in line with set criteria; provide timely feedback to SOSD Case
Management staff or to other agencies for cases who were referred for legal assistance when necessary and
appropriate in light of confidentiality requirements;
• Collect needed data on a weekly and monthly basis related to legal activities and contribute to all the reports
requested by Program Manager.
• Review, check and deliver all required invoices related to legal fees to procurement and HR officer
• Any other assigned task as assigned by the Program manager
• Participate in coordinated protection needs assessments in target areas;
• Discuss legal cases identified (or referred by Case Workers/Protection Monitors) with Case Manager, designing a
specific case plan and closely follow up all the legal aspects of the cases;
• Update case managers about the status of opening cases.
• Lease with Courts, any governments departments, under the supervision of Program manager.

Qualifications & requirements

Qualifications & Preferred Skills
• University degree in law – or degree in international humanitarian law
• Preferably, good experience in legal case managing work in general and CP case management in particular.
• Written & verbal proficiency in Arabic and Kurdish language also English is preferable.
Good computer skills.
• Good understanding of the local context especially of the IDP/ Returnees situations in Iraq
• Understanding of humanitarian Response, especially protection concepts & approaches.
• Good interpersonal skills, good communication, organizational & analytical skills & ability to work well in a team.
• Good report writing skills, preferably in English.
• Familiarity of monitoring & evaluation tools & documents is preferable.
• Ability to travel independently, including to rural communities and work long hours in project operational area.
• Ability to multitask, handles pressure, improvises, and be a good team player.
• Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.

The Legal Aid Worker is to abide by the Child Rights, Child Safeguarding and PSEA policies and personal code of conduct
by the (SOSD) and represent the organisation in a loyal and responsible manner.
