With this aim, GIZ works together with its partners to develop effective solutions that offer people better prospects and sustainably improve their living conditions. 

About Project

The GIZ “Strengthening Participation, Peaceful Co-existence, and Equality in Iraq” (SPACE) programme aims at strengthening the capacities of state and non-state actors to actively support the equal participation of women in Iraq including KRI. The project started in June 2024 for a planned duration of three years. SPACE focuses on two major components: 1) Participation: Strengthening the political, economic, and social participation of women; 2) Prevention: Strengthening capacities and structures to prevent violence against women and girls and increase adequate service delivery for survivors of violence.

The project cooperates with different actors from government, civil society, and the private sector. A special focus lies on strengthening civil society networks across the MENA-region.

The Programme is looking to expand the project team in Erbil.


As the gender advisor, your main activities consist of:

  • Managing an area of responsibility that forms part of the programme objectives and/or agreements with the manager/AV.
  • Assisting with general project planning and develops project concepts including preparation, organization and moderation of planning exercises and their implementation, management, monitoring, quality management, evaluation, communication, and documentation. 
  • Assisting project/programme initiatives to provide professional advisory services to and cooperate with a broad range of target groups.
  • Implementing daily operational aspects of all issues related to the area of responsibility. 
  • Processing technical aspects and further developing the area of responsibility in accordance with the specified quality standards. 
  • Maintaining a good flow of communication and information between all involved institutions (ex, implementing partners), counterparts and GIZ.
  • Innovation and knowledge management within relevant area of responsibility.

Qualifications & requirements

  • Masters/Bachelors in an area that is related to the project/programme objectives, with a focus on a relevant field, i.e., political, or social science, gender studies, conflict, and peace studies.
  • At least 3 years’ professional experience in a comparable position, i.e., in the area of women, peace and security agenda, women’s rights, gender equality.
  • At least 2 years of experience working with international organizations. 
  • Profound knowledge of gender equality and women’s rights in (post)conflict contexts and the Women, Peace, and Security Agenda/UNSCR1325.
  • High level of expertise in the field of protection and prevention of Gender Based Violence (GBV) including survivor centered approaches.  
  • High gender expertise in strengthening economic participation of women (including Internally displaced women) in society. 
  • Strong working experience in media and working with different formal and informal networks. 
  • Excellent critical thinking, interpersonal, networking, communication, time-management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Good working knowledge of ITC technologies (e.g., MS Office, emails, elevant softwares) 
  • Fluent written and oral knowledge of the English language and Kurdish and/or Arabic.
  • Willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed – corresponding measures are agreed with management.
