ABOUT THE PROJECT
The Joint Initiative for Strategic Religious Action (JISRA) in Iraq is a consortium of three international NGOs,
namely Search for Common Ground (Search), Tearfund, and Mensen met een Missie (MM), as well as local
partners Peace and Freedom Organization (PFO) and CAPNI for Humanitarian Aid in Iraq. JISRA aims to address
and transform intra-, inter-, and extra-religious dynamics in Iraq to promote Freedom of Religion and Belief
(FoRB) through direct and local partner implementation across Iraq. As a part of this project, the consortium will
facilitate the workshop of project staff for all consortium members, including both international and local civil
society partners, in the key methodologies to be applied across project locations throughout the duration of the
programme.
ASSIGNMENT OBJECTIVES
As part of the capacity building plan for the CAPNI JISRA staff; the consultant will be asked to develop a
curriculum, workshop content and tools on the topic of (Negotiation and Mediation & Conflict Management).
The consultant will also facilitate and train CAPNI JISRA staff to use the curriculum/content/tools according to
the context of Nineveh Plain in particular and Iraq in general.
MAIN DELIVERABLES
The consultant should develop the following materials:
1. WORKSHOP CURRICULUM
Negotiation, Mediation and Conflict Management
1. Understanding Freedom of Religion or Belief: An introduction to the concept of Freedom of Religion
or Belief and its importance in a diverse society.
2. Principles of Negotiation and Mediation: An overview of the principles of negotiation and mediation,
including the role of neutrality, confidentiality, and impartiality.
3. Designing and Conducting a Mediation or Negotiation Process: An overview of the steps involved in
designing and conducting a mediation or negotiation process, including pre-mediation or prenegotiation planning, joint sessions, and private caucuses.
4. Role of Mediators and Negotiators: Understanding the role and responsibilities of mediators and
negotiators, including the importance of neutrality, confidentiality, and impartiality.
5. Introduction to Conflict Management: Define conflict and explore its causes, effects, and impact on
individuals and organizations.
6. Conflict Resolution Strategies & Techniques: An introduction to different conflict resolution
strategies and techniques, including interest-based negotiation, positional negotiation, and
transformative mediation.
7. Conflict Prevention and Management: Strategies for preventing conflicts related to Freedom of
Religion or Belief, including early warning systems, dialogue initiatives, and community-building
efforts.
8. Understanding Emotions and Managing Anger: Understand emotions and how they affect conflict
resolution. Develop strategies for managing anger and other strong emotions.
9. Role-play Exercises: Practice sessions where participants can apply conflict resolution, negotiation
and mediation skills and techniques to hypothetical scenarios.
2. WORKSHOP CONTENT AND TOOLS

The above-mentioned workshop curriculum should be linked to different important topics such as:
1. Religious engagement.
2. Relationship-building.
3. Women and youth engagement.
4. Dispute resolution to support interfaith action
Tools
1. 4-day agenda of the workshop.
2. Pre & Post evaluations.
3. Power-Point presentation slides and other relevant documents and tools.
4. Report on the workshop by the consultant (trainees’ evaluation).
Candidates will be expected to have the following qualifications:
● Proven experience in the design, development, and delivery of similar workshops.
● Ability to tailor workshop modules to the specific needs of trainees.
● Experience in advocacy and awareness-raising.
● Knowledge of the Iraq communications context, especially of Nineveh Plain, including:
○ Cultural and religious context.
○ Audiences.
○ Channels.
○ Sensitivities and possible risks.
● Experience in designing/adapting questionnaires, evaluation forms, and pre- and post-tests.
● Interpersonal skills that evoke trust.
● Willingness and ability to be flexible.
● Coordination and communication skills.
● Gender and cultural sensitivity.
● Fluent in Arabic; English and Kurdish are an asset.
