Job Description

Under the supervision of the Logistics Officer and the oversight of the Country Director, the Bus Driver will be responsible for picking up and bringing FYF staff and beneficiaries to their destination in the areas of Sharya, Shekhan and Khanke, as needed. The Bus Driver will ensure smooth of the project’s operations through the safety and maintenance of all vehicles. The Bus Driver will ensure the implementation of all security procedures. The Bus Driver will ideally have a strong background in driving buses, with 4+ years of experience and with knowledge of vehicle maintenance. The Bus Driver must have a valid driver’s license and be permitted to drive in Iraq. Experience in the humanitarian context (non-governmental organizations) is highly desired, as well as knowledge of languages (Kurdish and Arabic; English desirable). We are hiring three bus drivers to be based in different locations: one for Khanke, one for Shekhan, and one for Sharya. This is a full-time position.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform several functions:

  • Provide own vehicle.
  • Driver will be responsible for picking up and bringing FYF staff and beneficiaries to their destination in the area of Sharya, Shekhan and Khanke. 
  • Certify that these vehicles are in sound and safe condition and free of any known faults of defects which would affect their safe operation under normal use.
  • Maintain a log which documents daily start and end time of each trip, to and from locations for each trip and the signature of a designated FYF representative for verification to be completed each day.
  • Keep the vehicle ready and in normal working condition, and punctually be waiting at designated pick-up and drop-off locations.
  • Properly maintain the vehicle’s air-conditioning system so that heating and cooling both fully function.
  • Ensure the vehicle has an adequate amount of fuel at all times.
  • Cover maintenance and insurance charges or fees in case of any damages.
  • Ensure the respect of all type of security procedures.
  • Not transport unauthorized persons or items in the vehicle while on duty.
  • Cover maintenance and insurance charges or fees in case of any damages.
  • Be well-disposed, fit for duty and communicative with members of staff.
  • Travel outside of Khanke, Sheikan and/or Sharya if need arises.

Qualifications & requirements

  • At least 4 years’ experience as a driver of buses, preferably within the humanitarian context.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be permitted to drive in Iraq.
  • Knowledge in vehicles maintenance (fuel, air conditioner, spares tools, etc.).
  • Proven knowledge of security procedures and protocols used by NGOs.
  • Emotional maturity and stability to resolve conflicts in non-violent way and maintain appropriate boundaries.
  • Good interpersonal skills including ability to gain trust and build relationships.
  • Fluency in Kurdish and Arabic; English desirable.
  • Must have strong relationship with Yezidi community.
  • Able to handle confidential and sensitive information.
  • A demonstrated commitment to high professional ethical standards and humanitarian values.
  • Proven ability to calmly, professionally, and successfully manage multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrates initiative and is comfortable working in a group, as well as independently.
